Hello all!

My collaborators and I are hiring a postdoc position in the area of HPC /
scientific computing / CFD solvers for large-scale Earth's mantle
convection, and this project is a collaboration with TACC, the
supercomputing center in Texas. More details are found below.

Please reach out directly to me if you are interested and/or would like to
apply: [email protected]

Details about the position:

We seek a full-time Postdoctoral Associate at the Department of Mathematics
at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA. The position involves development of
scalable algorithms for NSF’s next generation supercomputer, in particular,
the algorithms will address earthquake rupture and plate tectonics on a
global scale. The computational methods utilize parallel high-performance
computers. Our team, based at Virginia Tech, Caltech and NYU's Courant
Institute, works in collaboration with the Texas Advanced Computer Center
(TACC) and has been developing solvers for Earth's mantle and plate
tectonics and involves geophysics, computational fluid dynamics, numerical
analysis, and scientific computing. We utilize and develop, for instance:
finite elements, adaptive mesh refinement, and multigrid in parallel.

Now, we are targeting new hardware platforms, NSF’s next generation
supercomputer “Horizon” (https://www.hpcwire.com/2022/04/14/tacc), and new
science problems. We seek candidates with an outstanding recent PhD in
Mathematics or Computer Science (or a related field) and with a background
in computational science including skills in parallel / high-performance
computing and numerical methods (preferably finite element analysis). Other
preferred qualifications include code optimization on massively parallel
HPC platforms, knowledge of MPI, and C/C++. The position will be based at
Virginia Tech’s campus in Blacksburg, VA and it will involve travel to TACC
in Austin, TX and collaboration with our interdisciplinary team.
