All:
I've got the pleasure to announce that at the workshop a couple of weeks ago, all of the principal developers stuck their heads together and selected the "Best deal.II-based paper of 2023":

A comprehensive and biophysically detailed computational model of the
    whole human heart electromechanics
  by M. Fedele, R. Piersanti, F. Regazzoni, M. Salvador, P. C. Africa,
     M. Bucelli, A. Zingaro, L. Dedè, A. Quarteroni.

We also have a runner-up:

Mechanobiology of the relocation of proteins in advecting cells: in
vitro experiments, multi-physics modeling, and simulations
  by M. Serpelloni, M. Arricca, C. Ravelli, E. Grillo, S. Mitola,
     A. Salvadori.

Both of these papers exemplify what we hope that deal.II can be used for (among other things): To enable simulations of complex, real-world phenomena at realistic scales. I think you will all find these papers impressive if you take a look at them. Details and links can be found here:

Please join me in congratulating the authors of these papers!

Best
Wolfgang & the other principal developers
