PHILIPPINES:

Death sentence on killers of TV cameraman upheld


The Court of Appeals on Monday upheld a decision issued by the Quezon City
Regional Trial Court, which sentenced to death 8 men, including a fireman,
who killed a PTV-4 cameraman 6 years ago.

Sentenced to death after they were found guilty of armed robbery and
homicide were FO1 Felipe de la Cruz, Odie Dona, Alfredo Baraccas, Eduardo
Palakpak, Bernardo Ranara, Jomari de los Reyes, Dominador Recepcion and
Robert Alfonso.

Court records indicate that the 8 commandeered a passenger jeepney in
Monumento, Caloocan, City on July 28, 1999. They then proceeded to
Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City, where they robbed a gasoline station.

They also robbed a convenience store along Tandang Sora Street near
Mindanao Avenue where they killed PTV-4 cameraman Elmer Duque and security
guard Nestor Mayatma.
