Convicted murderer hanged in Iran


An Iranian man convicted of murder has been hanged in a prison in the
central province of Yazd, the Jomhuri Eslami newspaper reported Thursday.

The killer was named as Ali Fesahat and his victim as 22-year-old Ahmad
Kheyrandish.

The hanging, carried out on Wednesday, brought to at least 58 the number
of executions carried out in Iran so far this year, according to an AFP
tally based on press and witness reports.

In 2004 at least 159 people were executed in the Islamic republic -- the
highest rate in the world after China, according to Amnesty International.
