[Remember that at the FBI's behest, a House committee approved a bill
(in Sept 1997, if I recall properly) *banning encryption without
backdoors for the Feds*. It may be ancient history now, but I am not

This is a very good reason folks should be in favor of upgrading to
IPv6.  It has end-to-end IPSEC built-in, so your VOIP calls would all
be encrypted.  Don't be shocked if this also turns into a call to ban
encryption of VOIP links.
