Hello all - thanks to the many people who made it last week, and for anyone who didn't, don't despair, it's not too late! This Tuesday will see our next debate take place (details below) on the topic "This House Would Legalise Polygamy". Does the state have the right to regulate relationships? Is this a relic of a lost Christian past? Or would this devalue the status of women in some cultural groups, and undermine the family with all the social problems that come with this?

We will be running this as a training debate - which means we will pair up anyone who wishes to speak for the first time into two's, and then assign them to an experienced society member to guide them and help them plan and prepare. We will then have a very relaxed, friendly beginners debate to give people a taste of debating, proper, before heading to the bar for yet more relaxing.

So if you've ever wanted to try debating - this is the week to do so! And if you want to see how it works, but not take part just yet, then thats fine too. Having people to watch and give feedback is actually something we really need to keep us sharp!

So as usual, contact me if you need any more information. And see below for the times, and place of the debate.

"This House Would Legalise Polygamy"
Tuesday the 19th, 18.00
Aurora-Sali  New Student House, Mannerheimintie 5 B
*NOTE* The room is not in the same building as last time - walk past the La Tour restaurant and the entrance from last time (5a) until you reach a shop called 'Pentik', then between this and a health food store there is an entrance which leads to a lift (we will put a sign here) and the room.

Try the journey planner here if you are unsure where this is http://aikataulut.ytv.fi/reittiopas/en//
