Yes, it is inconvenient. Although you can carry a photocopy of it, it'd depend on people accepting to sign your key with such a document. Those who don't like it, will not show up on it and that's all, as it has happened in the past. If you want to be in the big keysigning, be prepared to be stood up for more than two hours saying the same over and over (or writing it down and showing the note) and have some fun. Otherwise, do not participate, those have been the options for everybody always.
