Having attended linux.conf.au with my family on a number of occasions I
think that DebConf should not really attempt to accommodate families
with young children within the same venue as normal attendees.
LCA has always prided itself in running a low-cost partner's programme
during the conference which works well some years and not so well
others. The main difference is in the committment and energy of a
person who is delegated the responsibility for running it - my wife,
when it was in Wellington.
In attending LCA we have always rented an apartment near the venue,
which has worked well, and I know most (if not all) families have done
similarly. I think that the best assistance for accommodation that
DebConf should reasonably offer would be some scouting out of such
places.
I'm sure any partner's programme for DebConf would be a different kind
of thing than for LCA but I think it would be very worthwhile to be
informed by that experience.
In general I think this is a good idea, if possible.
