If Debian would start to favor proprietary software, platforms or services we would not be Debian anymore. Our community knows where to find us and we don't target random people on Facebook. There are Linux outreach events that do this and may have to find the needy where they gather. We have dedicated outreach to enlarge the community but this is (and needs to be) more selective than a Facebook page with a "computer problems fixed for free" banner. Remember, we don't even charge an entrance fee. We do not want as many people as possible. We want the right people. Not following email lists, IRC or the Linux / FLOSS press but needing Facebook to find out about DebConf is probably a counter-indication to the people we look for. The same is (somewhat) true for sponsors. Here more noise would help them (and that's - I guess - why we have some (semi- to unofficial) Twitter accounts) but it's a fine line to walk and we have a team dedicated to this difficult task of communicating Debian-style (i.e. adhering to the Debian principles and still reaching target audiences).
