Dear DebConf Team members, the DebConf Committee had a meeting to discuss current topics around DebConf within the scope of our delegation.
This is our report for the main topics discussed: ## Mentors for DebConf19 As per the updated delegation text (https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2018/10/msg00000.html) we have extended the ability for former DebConf organizers and other experienced team members to take over responsibility as the mentors for a specific DebConfXY team. We have nominated Nicolas Dandrimont (olasd) and Nattie Mayer-Hutchings (nattie) as mentors to DebConf19 and both have accepted the nomination. We expect these two to be the key contact points for the DebConf19 local team. ## Timeline for DebConf20 bids We currently have bids from Bratislava, Haifa, India (city tbd.) and Lisbon. We ask all teams to migrate their bid platforms to https://wiki.debian.org/DebConf/20 as we will depreciate the DebConf-specific wiki (see below for details on that). Please complete the information as per https://wiki.debian.org/DebConf/General/Handbook/Bids/PriorityList and https://wiki.debian.org/DebConf/General/Handbook/Bids/LocationCheckList by 2018-12-31. The committee and DebConf team are here to help teams build their bids. Please discuss them with us, as you go. We can guide you to thinking about the important parts of a good bid, and help you to build a complete, strong bid in time. We will ask the teams that have updated their bid platforms to participate in review meetings in January 2019 and announce the winner for the DebConf20 bid in February 2019. We plan to hold the review meetings in the week of 14-20 January 2019. We'll put out a poll for dates and times, in early January, when we have a final list of bids. ## Wiki migration We have long discussed the migration of the DebConf wiki to a namespace in the Debian Wiki and have a window of opportunity now between the DebConf18 having closed down timely and DebConf19 slowly picking up work. So, all new content is to be created in the Debian Wiki under the https://wiki.debian.org/DebConf name space from now on. The old DebConf wiki will be put into a read only state at the end of November 2018 with a banner pointing to https://wiki.debian.org/DebConf . We will archive the wiki text and a static version on static.debian.org during December and redirect the wiki.dc.o domain there. We would like to thank the current DebConf wiki maintainers, first and foremost Kaare, for many years of awesome support and also our Debian wiki admins for their support in our migration. If you have any questions or feedback please do not hesitate to write to [email protected] or find us on the #debconf-team channel on irc.debian.org. Have a good time between DebConfs! Daniel on behalf of the DebConf Committee
