Hi,

we're evaluating flumotion, because we're thinking about streaming talks and
workshops from the next debian conference, debconf6 in may 2006 in Oaxtepec,
Mexico (see http://www.debconf.org or
http://meetings-archive.debian.net/pub/debian-meetings/)

Our tests with ffmpeg2theora have shown that encoding to theora takes lots of
cpu power. (Encoding a 12min. DV-file takes about an hour on 2ghz i386
hardware...)

So I would like to ask you about recommendations about the hardware
requirements for streaming ogg theora in realtime from DV input.

Our setup in mexico will have a small uplink (what is the minimum we'll need?
500kbps for one stream ? (of what quality?)), which sends the encoded streams
to (a) distribution server(s) with good bandwidth on the internet. So we will
need powerful encoding machines on site in Mexico - how powerful must they
be ?

I'll be glad to hear any other advice you have. Please cc: me, I'm not
subscribed.

Thanks for your advice,
        Holger
