I was able to reproduce the problem after making sure that curl was configured with SSL support. The bug is actually in libgcrypt-1.5.0 (it loops in _gcry_rndlinux_gather_random mishandling a select error), which has been fixed at least in version 1.5.2. I'd guess making sure that libgcrypt-1.5.2 is built for m68k would fix the issue.
