Hi Samuel, About 1. issue: We were able to use gnome's mixer to bring up the volume. Afaik that applet controls only pulse not alsa :-(. BTW.: I am using gnome classic mode. Don't know if this makes a difference in the audiosettings. See attachment for alsa controls.
