I'm going to have to reinstall archlinux to find out what kind of espeakup.conf file it writes for me in order to make any headway with debian. I found out everything listed in aplay -l and aplay -L output was connected to a speaker system powered by usb with stereo input plug. These are small speakers and the completely usb speakers are the better set. More later as I find out about my hardware.
