insert does work for me with debian 12.7 on both LXDE and MATE desktops. Switching to capslock as modified also made capslock work as modified. Perhaps it's your laptop keyboard which doesn't support pressing these together? :/ You can try to run sudo showkey, press insert-space, and check that the output is: keycode 110 press keycode 57 press keycode 57 release keycode 110 release (110 is insert, and 57 is space) Samuel
