No, the dummy does output to a tty device. It just does so without any fancy protocol things, just plain text. So you'd have to read from another device, connected through tty. If you want to capture the speakup output, you can rather use the speakup_soft module which is meant for that, and cat /dev/synth to get the text. Samuel
