-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi,
Very soon I will start to package two software used in our lab : NARVAL [1] and ENX [2]. I would like to know if these packages can be of interest to the Debian Science community and so be hosted by Debian (in Squeeze + 1) or if it is better to have our own server. NARVAL (mainly developed @ IPN Orsay) is a framework to develop acquisition system in a very short time (one or two weeks for a simple system). It is a distributed application that can run on many nodes over network. It is written in Ada and processes can handle user code written in C/C++ (shared library with a well defined interface). A few lab already use it across Europe (Germany, Italy, France) and a Debian hosting should be a great support for promoting both Debian and NARVAL in these labs. In fact, most of the labs use Scientific Linux which isn't (in my humble opinion) very developer friendly at least in comparison to Debian. Connection to hardware (commercial or specific) is usually done writing Linux drivers. NARVAL takes data from VME, VXI, PCI, USB, ATCA boards... ENX (mainly developed @ CSNSM Orsay) is a companion of NARVAL, where NARVAL handle hight data rate data flow, ENX acts as a registry server. It loads plugins (C or Ada ones) that will able you to configure your hardware (VME boards, ...) through the network or using a local console. It is also written in Ada. ENX runs also in embedded environment like powerpc cpu in Virtex 4 FPGA. Both products can be controlled using Web Services enabling an easy way to automate runs and be controlled by other systems and so be integrated to more complex systems. Advices, comments and so on are very welcome. xavier [1] http://narval.in2p3.fr [2] http://enx.in2p3.fr [3] http://www.scientificlinux.org/ -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.10 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iEYEARECAAYFAkueIDwACgkQVIZi0A5BZF6VwACgo3+c/0tnlCJhyGPVbDMFAn4x HFMAnjz2oUJ/hq3wnqQ/h57SEZ/oKrM3 =3bsB -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [email protected] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
