According to Dmitriy Anisimkov there are some upstream issues/regressions with AWS and GNUTLS, see [1]. The AWS repository has a GNUTLS-specific branch called topic/da/gnutls, which contains fixes for some (but not all) of the problems [2]. Hope this helps.
