Yes, 4.x is MUCH better than 3.3.6 was, mostly thanks to the hard work of Jay (credit where credit is due...there are others, but Jay's largely been the champion of XFree86 on Alpha). The DRI code in 4.x also helps out quite a bit. My SX with a Voodoo3 can tear up my Intel with a Rage Fury 128 in 3D performance. I'm currently working on something that may make at least KDE load apps quite a bit faster (prelinking). It's not ready for Debian yet, though, so it won't make it into woody and I have a bit more work to do before it's even ready for sid. C
