There is this bug report for gcc/g++ on Alpha: gcc-4.4: Miscompilation at -O2 on alpha http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=566195 When I checked earlier this year it was still present in gcc-4.4 but was fixed in gcc-4.5.
