Yeah, I am not surprised. Trying to upgrade to jessie from lenny is not supported. I now remember that when I had installed with a Lenny disk I then upgraded to a Squeeze equivalent from snapshot.debian.org (I now have no idea what date that was) probably first upgrading the kernel (with the ones I pointed to in an earlier message) and udev before the rest of the system. I did this a couple of years ago and so could then upgrade to debian-ports unstable. But now you will probably need to do another upgrade from snapshot.debian.org to just before the release of Wheezy (was that May last year?, if so upgrade to the end of April.) If the kernel got upgraded automatically make sure you have at least a 3.2 kernel installed (probably necessary before the last step but I am not totally sure). Then you should be able to upgrade to debian-ports unstable. You probably will have a few fun and games along the way :-/. Nowadays I always install using debootstrap as the above process is so time consuming. But debootstrapping at the moment on Alpha is also tricky because you need packages from the unreleased distribution of debian-ports to bootstrap the system, but debootstrap does not support bootstrapping from multiple distributions. I'll get around to posting instructions on the debootstrap method but not now, it is getting late. Cheers Michael. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [email protected] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
