Wel, I have the same motherboard, and here it works perfectly, I use Alsa.

I cannot completly garanty current debian is alright, as I don't use the 
debian kernel, but a self compiled one. I don't think this is a problem with 
the kernel or debian though.

What went wrong when you installed Alsa ? note that Alsa might not work if oss 
is still active (check with lsof if both oss and alsa are loaded). 

If this isn't the case, try running alsaconf from a console, and follow 
instructions.
