Hi, Thanks for all the suggestions. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get any of them to work. No doubt this is due to my lack of skill, and so I finally realized it would be quicker to just recompile the kernel without rivafb. I did that, and then used module assistant and it worked fine. Thanks for all the help; the machine is getting better and better as I get things working. Ric
