Actually, if you care to take a look at the k3b web site, you will notice that kernel 2.6.8+ indeed breaks it. This is/was a known bug/ feature, triggerd by a change in the linux api (?) introduced in kernel 2.6.8. I was wondering if it was still current, and apparently it still is. unless ... did you try with kernel 2.6.10 as wel ? Cheers, Ernest.
