It is a 64-bit version. They not offer the sources but the rpm's. In the past I could install their 32-bit compiler on a P-IV machine under Debian but the task seems to be harder on Amd64 arch.
Just in case any of you managed to install it let me know the details.
I am intrested in comparing g77 with other 64-bit compilers and as far as I know only Intel gives one for free.

libc6-dev was not installed. It is now and I can compile. Thaks a lot.
By the way do you know how to install the Intel fortran compiler. I have tried with
alien but it gives lots of errors.
Is it 64bit or 32bit?
I suspect if it is 32bit you should enter a 32bit chroot, and run linux32 alien to try and convert it, although eve nthat may not work. Do thye not offer it as just a tar file you could install from? rpm's would not be my first choice as starting point.
