My method is generally: apt-get install nvidia-kernel-source module-assistant m-a -t prepare nvidia-kernel m-a -t build nvidia-kernel m-a -t install nvidia-kernel apt-get install nvidia-glx dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 (select nvidia driver for videocard driver).
