you need the debian patch too, then ypou can compile your kernel with MAKEFLAGS="..." PATCH_THE_KERNEL=YES make-kpkg --added-patches=debian --config=menuconfig --revision=... --append-to-version=... this should work using the debian config of the official kernel image.
