I had a similar problem on my notebook, because on notebooks, cpu fan not always running to save some energy. And because I use ACPI but I forgot to load "fan" module at start, when the cpu was too hot, a security shutdown the notebook.
If you use ACPI and fan is not loaded, try to add "fan" and "thermal" in /etc/modules
