I often use eeyes
(http://packages.debian.org/oldstable/graphics/eeyes).
Is someone knowing if there is a amd64 package for it ? (or even if it
is replaced by another tool on the Debian repositories).

The intended Gnome standard is now "eog" (Eye of Gnome).
I personally use "qiv" (Quick Image Viewer). Both are
supported Debian packages.
