You should purge the package (not just remove) to wipe the slate
clean. As it is it will keep your nonexisting conffiles from the
frelled install atempt which isn't a valid config option. But policy
dictates that I honor your choice of leaving them missing.

On the first install the example files are copied and you could just
recopy them but purging is better.
