I get the same thing (different line number, but same package). Looking at the line right above the line it complains about is a file location that contains a space (and a pair of parentheses). My guess is the dpkg is getting confused by this. I looked at http://ftp.debian.org/pool/main/b/beep-media-player (0.9.7.1+cvs20050803-1.1)/ and it exists.

Hi When I update the package list wit dselect I get the following error message: Fetched 1B in 5s (0B/s) Reading package lists... Done Merging available information Replacing available packages info, using /var/cache/apt/available. dpkg: parse error, in file `/var/cache/apt/available' near line 108494 package `beep-media-player': too few values in file details field `Size' (compared to others) update available list script returned error exit status 2. Press <enter> to continue. This is only a problem in amd64. I tried to copy /var/cache/apt/available to /var/lib/dpkg/available and edit it by hand. Then I had problem with some other packages but at last it worked. Therefore I guess it is a problem with dselect, not with the corresponding packages. Does anyone get the same error?
