Thanks all for the good info. My problem with gcc was that I jumped to the conclusion that "extra" software would be on the 2nd or 3rd disk. I tried apt again and this time mounted the first disk and there it is. I think I will find the headers now that I see they are called linux-headers rather that kernel-headers. This should allow getting ndiswrapper up and getting to the web. Thanks again. regards Jim Bean
