I agree Adam. I think it's always better to have DSO instead of core
modules.
Imagine a security issue in the mod_perl. With DSO, no need to compile
your Apache again, juste change your mod.

There's really no need to have a statically-compiled apache2-perl
package, just install "apache2" and "libapache2-mod-perl2" instead.
The apache-perl package exists for historical reasons, due to past
instability with mod_perl compiled as a DSO, but these issues seem to
have been long since fixed.
