I don't recall the exact details, but this requires a bit of care to get right. Specifically, the problem is what happens when other things aren't compiled with these flags. I once spent two or three days chasing after an extremely subtle bug in Rivet that was caused by a struct being overwritten in a nasy way because Tcl had those flags and Apache didn't (or vice versa?). -- David N.
