I thought that unless you have special permissions from the backports ftp-masters, you can only backport versions of packages to trixie-backports that are *now* in testing:
paul@toba ~ $ rmadison mesa -s testing
mesa       | 26.0.8-1      | testing    | source

I noticed that the discussion in bug #1132617 has been leaning towards the 
26.0.x series, but I thought 25.3.3 might be a safer, lower-risk intermediate 
step.


As far as I know, this is typically not allowed [1]: Backports tracks testing and only package versions included in testing are allowed in it
