You can also use your favorite tool from 
http://lcic.org/software.html#installation... because once you have your 
image the way you want, you can use anaconda / kickstart / OSCAR to 
install your distro-agnostic image. Scyld and Gentoo 
(http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/altinstall.xml#doc_chap5) have similar 
utilities but I can't say I have ever installed Debian with them.
