plainly put :
MPI is a standard API for communicating between processes that are running
on other machines.
MPICH is one implementation. LAM is another.
This is one "classic" and "standard" way of doing Beowulf clustering.
When people talk about Beowulf clusters, it's likely they are talking about
something similar.
# an approach in the MOSIX direction is not very popular (yet), is it?
