I think your question is being answered negatively in the Beowulf FAQ but here is my a bit more improved offering. The answer is "yes" or "no" all depending on the application. Some examples: 1) you're doing mem/cpu intensive stuff: .. the answer is probably no, price/performance wise... 2) you're doing some parallel disk op that doesn't require much communication: it may be worth it.
