Machine: Lenovo ThinkPad T500 + VirtualBox Processor:Intel Core 2 Duo processor P8400 (2.26 GHz), 3-MB L2 cache / VirtualBox Processor Memory: 2GB / 512 MB Partitions: Output of lspci -knn (or lspci -nn): Base System Installation Checklist: [O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it Initial boot: [O] Detect network card: [O] Configure network: [E for wifi, O for ethernet] Detect CD: [O] Load installer modules: [O] Detect hard drives: [O] Partition hard drives: [O] Install base system: [E] Clock/timezone setup: [ ] User/password setup: [ ] Install tasks: [ ] Install boot loader: [ ] Overall install: [ ] Comments/Problems: Cannot complete the install both directly on the T500 or in a VirtualBox machine. The problems are all during base system install and are: 1. Error message: "Debootstrap warning Warning: Failure trying to run: chroot /target mount -t proc proc /proc" Click on continue brings up another message: "The debootstrap program exited with an error (return value 2). Check /var/log/syslog or see virtual console 4" Virtual console 4 says: main-menu[842]: INFO: Menu item 'bootstrap-base' selected debootstrap: Segmentation fault Click on continue brings up this message: "The base system installation into /target/ failed. Check..." when trying to repeat the Install the base system phase I'm asked if I want to proceed with installation to unclean target. If I click yes the installation continues and I don't see the above messages again. 2.After choosing which kernel to use and wheter to include all drivers in initrd, configuring linux-image fails. Message: "An error was returned while trying to install the kernel into the target system. Kernel package: 'linux-image-2.6-686'. Check /var/log/..." This happens regardless of the kernel I choose to install. syslog says: in-target: Selectin previously deslected package linux-image-2.6-686 in-target: Unpacking linux-image-2.6-686 (from .../linux-image-2.6-686-2.6.26+17+lenny1_i386.deb) ... in-target: Setting up linux-image-2.6.26-2-686 (2.6.26-15) ... debconf: Obsolete command TITLE Configuring linux-image-2.6.26-2-686 called in-target: Running depmod. in-target: Running mkinitramfs-kpkg. in-target: Deprecation WARNING: use update-initramfs(8) in-target: dpkg: warning: obsolete option '--print-installation-architecture', please use '--print-architecture' instead. in-target: /usr/sbin/mkinitramfs: line 141: mktemp: command not fountd in-target: mkinitramfs-kpkg failed to create initrd image. in-target: Failed to create initrd image. in-target: dpkg: error processing linux-image-2.6.26-2-686 (--configure): in-target: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 9 in-target: dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of linux-image-2.6-686: in-targeT: linux-imnage-2.6-686 depends on linux-image-2.6.26-2-686; however: in target: Package linux-image-2.6.26-2-686 is not configured yet in-target: dpkg: error processing linux-image-2.26-686 (--configure): in-target: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured in-target: Errors were encountered while processing: in-target: linux-image-2.6.26-2-686 in-target: linux-image-2.6-686 in-target: E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) in-target: base-installer: error: existing on error base-installer/kernel/failed-install Hope this is useful and that I will one day be able to install from the testing iso.
