But, my Windows 7 was not detected after installation. After the first reboot, Windows 7 was not listed in the Grub boot menu. This is not really a problem. I installed the package "os-prober" and executed "update-grub" as root. This is described in errata sheet of the installer (Bug #666750). Now, Windows 7 is detected and listed in boot menu. I investigated the syslog of the installer and found the following: > May 24 14:39:36 os-prober: debug: running /usr/lib/os-probes/50mounted-tests > on /dev/sda1 > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: debug: mounted using GRUB ntfs filesystem > driver > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: debug: running subtest > /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/10freedos > May 24 14:39:36 10freedos: debug: /dev/sda1 is not a FAT partition: exiting > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: debug: running subtest > /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/10qnx > May 24 14:39:36 10qnx: debug: /dev/sda1 is not a QNX4 partition: exiting > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: debug: running subtest > /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/20macosx > May 24 14:39:36 macosx-prober: debug: /dev/sda1 is not an HFS+ partition: > exiting > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: debug: running subtest > /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/20microsoft > May 24 14:39:36 20microsoft: debug: /dev/sda1 is a NTFS partition > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: debug: running subtest > /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/30utility > May 24 14:39:36 30utility: debug: /dev/sda1 is not a FAT partition: exiting > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: debug: running subtest > /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/40lsb > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: debug: running subtest > /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/70hurd > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: debug: running subtest > /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/80minix > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: debug: running subtest > /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/83haiku > May 24 14:39:36 83haiku: debug: /dev/sda1 is not a BeFS partition: exiting > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: debug: running subtest > /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/90linux-distro > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: debug: running subtest > /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/90solaris > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: warning: failed to umount > /var/lib/os-prober/mount > May 24 14:39:36 os-prober: debug: running /usr/lib/os-probes/50mounted-tests > on /dev/sda2 > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: debug: mounted using GRUB ntfs filesystem > driver > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: debug: running subtest > /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/10freedos > May 24 14:39:36 10freedos: debug: /dev/sda2 is not a FAT partition: exiting > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: debug: running subtest > /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/10qnx > May 24 14:39:36 10qnx: debug: /dev/sda2 is not a QNX4 partition: exiting > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: debug: running subtest > /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/20macosx > May 24 14:39:36 macosx-prober: debug: /dev/sda2 is not an HFS+ partition: > exiting > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: debug: running subtest > /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/20microsoft > May 24 14:39:36 20microsoft: debug: /dev/sda2 is a NTFS partition > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: debug: running subtest > /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/30utility > May 24 14:39:36 30utility: debug: /dev/sda2 is not a FAT partition: exiting > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: debug: running subtest > /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/40lsb > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: debug: running subtest > /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/70hurd > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: debug: running subtest > /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/80minix > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: debug: running subtest > /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/83haiku > May 24 14:39:36 83haiku: debug: /dev/sda2 is not a BeFS partition: exiting > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: debug: running subtest > /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/90linux-distro > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: debug: running subtest > /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/90solaris > May 24 14:39:36 50mounted-tests: warning: failed to umount > /var/lib/os-prober/mount The partitions sda1 and sda2, where Windows 7 is installed, were correctly detected as NTFS partitions. But it was not detected as a Windows 7 installation. Please also have a look at the last message: "failed to umount /var/lib/os-prober/mount". This behaviour is a known issue.
