Ok, so doing something similar on my machine again has the effect of successfully locating the RAID drive, but it still fails to find the encrypted LVM (Auto-detection of a filesystem of /dev/mapper/waif-root failed). Do you have any cryptdevice lines in your /etc/default/grub, or /boot/grub/grub.cfg, or some customisation in /etc/grub.d?
