I had the same issue attempting to install Debian Wheezy/testing i386 on a Dell
OptiPlex GX270 with only onboard video which is a machine not too dissimilar
from the Dell Dimension 2400 in the bug report. The fix was increasing the
video memory from 1MB to 8MB in the bios as suggested along with upgrading from
BIOS A03 to the latest A07 BIOS. The memory increase alone did not fix the
problem. Came across this solution on another forum and wanted to post in case
others encounter the problem.
