Your problem is not related to the current bug, and I agree with Julien Cristau: > You need to reboot if you want X to see changed settings in that file. Saying more, the keyboard(5) manual page states this: > NOTES > In Debian systems, changes in /etc/default/keyboard > do not become immediately visible to X. > You should either reboot the system, or use > udevadm trigger --subsystem-match=input --action=change
