I'd like to add, that this would mean two less system daemons running: acpid and console-kit-daemon, without relevant loss of functionality.
You'd still have the shutdown-on-powerbutton-press feature or the suspend-on-lid-close handling via logind. -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
