there appeared to be no way to install to it. The installer appeared to want to zap the whole of my hard drive, which of course I wasn't prepared to let it do.
When I got the section "Partition disks", I was presented with the menu items:
1. Configure software RAID 2. Guided partitioning 3. Help on partitioning 4. IDE master (hda) - 41.2 GB IC35L040AVVN07-0 ...
Selecting item 1 produced the menu:
1. Erase entire disk ... 2. Manually edit partition table
Selecting item 2 just brought me back to the main partitioning menu.
Selecting item 4 from the main partitioning menu resulted in the following text being displayed:
You have selected an entire device to partition. If you proceed with creating a new partition table on the device, then all current partitions will be removed.
In other words, the installer seemed to be completely unaware of the current partitioning tables on my hard drive. I presume that counts as a bug. I've saved the output files partman and messages to a floppy, which can be posted if necessary.
