If you have any influence withing IBM, try to get someone to fund work on the kernel driver to get it to present RAID and disk status in text for in /proc/. At the moment, the tools to access the RAID status from the command line for the aacraid driver (afacli) sucks. The megaraid2 and DAC960 driver is for example much better in this regard.
