Thanks, I was aware of this but I've yet to have any success using it. I suspect running chkdsk/f on the NTFS partition fixes the parted in Debian aswell .. but since it was significantly older than the parted in the gparted livecd the last time I tried it and failed I got in the habit of using gparted.
