I doubt this is specific to LVM. LVM uses exactly the same partition layout as regular auto partitioning. Please check that the get_recipedir function in /lib/partman/recipes.sh selects an appropriate set of recipes for that box. You can debug this by a adding a line 'set -x' in /lib/partman/auto-lvm_tools.sh. If not, patch welcome.
