Just following up, no one seemed to comment on this bug, so I presume it's not been fixed, but I think it would be handy to mention in the D-I errata or install notes to prevent others being bitten by this problem.
Helpfully, the errata says that to get things added to the errata, you need to file an installation-report against installation-reports.
