I personally don't think that it is the main objective for d-i since
user can use other kind of tool and much more specialized then d-i for
it so from my POV it doesn't count for it to stay.

Yes. I think that hand-install packages are to have extra-features for
installer not single tools. For example, we have network-console
that's available that way.

Let's wait to see what others think about hdparm-udeb.
